This beautiful model was built over 20 years ago by Dave Shank at the request of his father, Arthur Swanson, a 363rd Armorer. After the model was displayed for 6 months it was removed and placed in storage. At his request last year the model was retrieved from storage and is now on permanent display with others in the Eagle Hanger. He spent over 200 hours building this model as a tribute to the "Yoxford Boys". Dave combined two model kits to get the P-51D model look, airbrushed everything except the decals, hand-painted the "Hurry Home Honey" and sprayed 20 coats of tan rustoleum on the base to get the concrete look. He used a hot knife to add the tread pattern to the tires, melted some sprue over a flame for the drop tank hoses and overall did hours of research online to obtain pix of the original as well as current paint schemes for authenticity.
