Hans Dortenmann's FW190D9.   He flew with JG54 and 26 and was credited with 38 victories. One of the leading personalities of this unit (The Green Hearts) was Hans Dortenmann. He received the third production Focke-Wulf D-9, W.Nr. 210003. Although damaged a couple of times and plagued by some engine troubles, Dortenmann managed to use this one D-9 from September 1944 to its destruction by his own hand at war's end, an astonding fact given the average life of a German fighter in combat was about 4 hours. When W.Nr. 210003 was assigned to Dortenmann, he was Staffelkapitan 0f 12/JG 52 and "Red 1" was the tactical number. He had the fin and rudder painted yellow so his younger pilots could find him in the air, even though he knew hisYellow-tailed Dora would be a target for Allied fighters. Beautiful model built by Richard Gonzales.
